Safety Tips

Here are some tips you should follow to maximise your safety when working as a model.

- Never give out your home phone number or home address.

- Create an alias and use this is correspondance. Try not to give out yor real name.

- Have a mobile phone you use exclusively for modelling.

- Try and take a friend or relative to shoots and assignments. If you can't get hold of someone make sure you tell someone where you are so they can check up on you.

- When you are first approached by a photographer or agency ask for at least two references from models, and check them out yourself.

- Always get a full postal address and landline phone number of the photographer, whether it is home or business. Get full details of where the shoot will take place, again full address and land line phone number. If it’s a studio call it to confirm that it is booked. Check that the address actually exists, try www.multimap.com

- Never arrange to meet a photographer somewhere and then go off on location or to somewhere that isn’t prior arranged. Either meet them at where the shoot will take place, and if it is on location then don’t go alone, or have them send a taxi to collect you. Call someone with the taxi details and ask the driver exactly where they have been asked to take you. Make sure you get the full details to a friend before the taxi sets off.

- If your work involves staying away from home ensure that secure accommodation is arranged before you travel and check it out first. Call the hotel in advance to confirm your booking, and check the room details, like you won’t be sharing etc.

- Arrange your travel detail yourself. If possible drive yourself or get someone you know to drive you.
